"When Words Aren't Enough"

What is Play & Art Therapy?

For children and even some adolescents, sitting on a couch and talking for 50 minutes can feel intimidating or impossible. Play is the natural language of a child, and art is a universal language for the soul. These therapies provide a developmentally appropriate way to express complex emotions that the brain hasn't yet put into words.

How Does it Work at mind360?

Our "Calm Cove" is equipped with sand trays, art supplies, and specialized toys. The therapy happens through the creative process itself.

  • Art Expression: Drawing or painting allows a child to "put their feelings on paper." This makes the emotion something they can look at, talk about, and even change.
  • Sandplay Therapy: Using miniature figures in a sand tray, clients can create "worlds" that reflect their internal struggles. It is a powerful way to process trauma without having to speak about it directly.
  • Role Play & Storytelling: Through imaginative play, children can practice social skills, explore boundaries, and work through scary scenarios (like a divorce or a move) in a safe, controlled environment.

Who Can Benefit?

  • Children (Ages 3–12): Dealing with ADHD, anxiety, bullying, or behavioral outbursts.
  • Teens: Who may find traditional talk therapy "awkward" and prefer creative outlets.
  • Family Transitions: Helping children process divorce, grief, or the arrival of a new sibling.
  • Non-Verbal Clients: Or anyone who feels that their emotions are too "big" or "messy" for words.
