Therapy (DBT)

"Building a Life Worth Living"

What is DBT?

DBT is a specialized form of CBT designed specifically for people who experience emotions very intensely. If you feel like your emotions go from 0 to 100 in seconds, DBT provides the "brakes." The word "Dialectical" means that two opposite things can be true at once: You are doing the best you can AND you need to do better to change.

The Four Pillars of DBT

Unlike other therapies, DBT is very skill-heavy. We focus on four specific areas:

  1. 1
Mindfulness: Learning how to be in the present moment without judging yourself.
  2. 2
Distress Tolerance: How to get through a crisis (like an argument or a panic attack) without making the situation worse using "TIPP" skills and self-soothing.
  3. 3
Emotion Regulation: Identifying what you are feeling and learning how to turn down the volume on intense anger, sadness, or shame.
  4. 4
Interpersonal Effectiveness: Learning how to say "no," set boundaries, and ask for what you need while keeping your self-respect and your relationships intact.

Who Can Benefit?

DBT is life-changing for those who struggle with:

  • Bipolar Disorder & Borderline Personality Traits.
  • Chronic Self-Harm or Suicidal Ideation: Providing life-saving coping strategies.
  • Substance Use & Addictive Behaviours: Learning to "pause" before acting on an urge.
  • High-Conflict Relationships: For those who feel "too much" and don't know how to communicate it safely.
