Therapy (EFT)
"Repairing the Bond, Not Just the Argument"
What is EFT?
Emotionally Focused Therapy is considered the "gold standard" of couples counselling, with a massive success rate. Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT is based on the science of adult attachment. It suggests that most relationship conflict isn't actually about the dishes or the finances—it's a "protest" against a loss of emotional connection. When we feel disconnected from our partner, our brain enters a state of panic, leading to the same "vicious cycle" of arguing or shutting down.
How Does it Work at mind360?
EFT is about moving from "head talk" to "heart talk." Your therapist acts as a "process consultant" to help you map out your cycle and find your way back to each other.
- De-escalation: We identify the "dance" you get into—for example, when one partner "pursues" (criticizes or pushes for answers) and the other "withdraws" (shuts down or leaves the room).
- Identifying Raw Spots: We help you look under the surface of the anger to find the vulnerable feelings, like the fear of being "not enough" or the loneliness of feeling unimportant to your partner.
- Creating "Hold Me Tight" Moments: We guide you through new, soft conversations where you can express your needs in a way that pulls your partner toward you rather than pushing them away.
Who Can Benefit?
- Distressed Couples: Those who feel like they are "walking on eggshells" or have become "roommates."
- Infidelity & Betrayal Recovery: Providing a roadmap to rebuild safety and trust.
- Individual Therapy: For those who want to understand their own "attachment style" and how it affects their relationships.
- Parent-Child Relationships: Helping families repair bonds after years of conflict.
